Show Pursuit

FRIENDS!  We have some awesome news to share!  After lifetimes spent as avid video game fans we are thrilled to report that we have starred in and released our very own game!  Show Pursuit, our collection of six mini-tributes to some of our favorite games of yesteryear, was programmed by our good friend Jordi Pamies; we handled the soundtrack (you may recognize some of the tunes from Shy Pursuit), sound effects, and between-level intro skits.  It currently enjoys a 5 out of 5 average review score and is available on your favorite Apple iDevice, be it phone, pod, or pad, for the bargain bin price of 99 cents.  We have you have as much fun playing it as we did making it, and good luck on level five of Sssssssnick.

MUESLI: The Music Video

Hot of the chalkboard comes a music video for "Muesli". It was created by our long-time friends and collaborators, Nicholas Gurewitch (The Perry Bible Fellowship, Trails of Tarnation) and Albert Birney (The Beast Pageant, Jubadaba). It tells the story of life and the universe through hand-drawn chalk animation. It's been in the works for a very long time and we are proud to unleash onto the world. Hope you enjoy!

Our appearance on WNYC's Soundcheck

Yesterday we appeared LIVE on the air of the prestigious WNYC's Soundcheck. We had the pleasure of sharing the show with the wonderful Chris Weingarten who was trolling guitar geeks. We even got to discuss Ronald Jones, one of our favorite unsung guitar heroes. You can listen to the whole thing right HERE.

"The Living Things" NEW MUSIC VIDEO

The latest Spinto Band video is a work of animated excellence from Phil Davis (who also directed our "Jackhammer" video). The other day the kind folks at NPR gave a very nice summary of it. But you can watch it right here, right now:

Tuesdays and Thursdays

Hey folks.  Have you heard?  Tuesdays and Thursdays are being called the new borough.  Why?  Because they are the hippest days.  Why?  Because you can come check out sweet lineups we put together at KungFu Necktie in Philadelphia (Tues) and The Rock Shop in Brooklyn (Thurs).  We recently calculated (it was a lot of math) that we will never reach the level of Animal Collective where we get to organize our own All Tomorrows Parties festival, so this is what we are doing instead:
We will have two great shows in two of our favorite places every week in May.  We are pumped.  Are you pumped?  Let's get you a bit more pumped...

The Purples- These our some great friends of ours.  We have shared stages at Christian colleges, Texas bars, and volleyball courts with these men during their years playing with The Teeth.  Now, named after a  color that accurately describes their passion for rock, they will be dropping it on both stages.

Alec Ounsworth- We all know this guy.  He is a wearer of great hats and a singer of great songs.  We are quite honored to share a stage with him.

Field Mouse- in an age when young people are debating whether or not to follow their dreams, it is good to know that there is a band that sounds like dreams.  We can't wait to groove alongside their deep grooves.

Cheers Elephant- These dudes are great, sunglassed moustaches and all.  While oftentimes it is easy to describe a band by mentioning they sound like they are from this decade or that decade, these dudes are timeless.  People in the future will say they sound like the 40s-- the 2040s (through telepathic radio waves).

Nightlands- We have a long list of people we have always wanted to be on a bill with.  Scratch off one more.

Via Audio- oooooooooh!  That is the sound I just made swaying to these jams.  Sometimes people (myself) get a bit wavery when a bio starts out with "Brooklyn based indie pop quartet."  This band is a call to read on or just totally fuck the bio and go straight to the audio page and sway on.  Can't wait for 5/15 to sway away.

Backwords- chances are if you are still reading this post, you will dig this band like a bachoe digs swimming pools.

The Extraordinaires- Philadelphia is flooded with freaks like these guys.  Sometimes, all you want to do is walk the dog and next thing you know you are being attacked by inspiring musicians!  what the dick!?

Sea of Bees- Here we go.  Do you really need to be told about this voice?  Get your head out of the blender and tune in.  Your hip cousin will approve.

Heyward Howkins- When you get a chance to share the stage with the man who shares the first tenor parts as you in your all male choir group, you book that stat.  That's the chance Mr. Krill got and he acted stat.

Horse's Mouth- Hold someone's hand for this set.  You will need the extra support.  Your knees will weaken and you may get spooked a little.  It's alright though.

Ski Lodge-   mmmmhmmmmm.  shuck and jive just like Little Mac as the entire Rock Shop is shucking and jiving on Thursday May 24th, the birthday of Punch Out creator Makato Wato.

So that is all the bands.  BUT HERE IS SOME MORE!  You can download a sampler of each show's guests jamming some tunes... Play it in your car.  Tell your car "play radical spinto residency sampler" and it will just play.  Cars do that nowadays:

RSVP to the Philadelphia residency to get late breaking news
RSVP to the Brooklyn residency to get great breaking news

See you folks at the show tonite!

Shy Pursuit IS HERE.

Would have written about this yesterday but there were too many crazy things happening. It all had to do with Shy Pursuit being officially available all over the world.
If you haven't picked up a copy yet, please visit your nearest local record shop and see if they have a copy. If they don't then demand one! We also have copies available through our web-store!

But if you want it's also available on a number of favorite internet places for music, such as:

Amazon
iTunes
Insound

When you buy from us, it's better for the band but we understand that you may have a gift certificate or even just prefer these sites. However you want to do it is fine with us!

In other news, our "Take It" video was featured on the VEVO homepage yesterday as well! We're there right alongside the likes of Akon and Rhianna! Check it out HERE.

And in celebration of Shy Pursuit being born into the world we are playing loads of shows. Go to the the "Shows" tab to get the scoop on that. More information on the residencies soon!

We'd also like to thank anyone that has already purchased a copy of the record. It's been a long time in the making and even a longer time in the releasing. We feel very grateful for the amount of support we've seen thus far and can only hope it continues. Thank you!!!

Why we love Red Prairie Press.

Not sure how many of you own one of our t-shirts or have seen the artwork of our albums Moonwink or Slim & Slender but if you derive any pleasure from wearing or viewing these items it is because of the wonderful lady above. I could go on an on about the beauty of friends working together and collaborating but Rachel explains it best here.

(Oh, also Red Prairie Press creates a variety of lovely apparel and artwork for purchase online or at your local craft fair!)

Local coverage and butterfly therapy.

Ryan Cormier of the News Journal / Pulp Culture / All-Around King of Delaware wrote a really nice piece on the recording of Shy Pursuit. Also, Thomas puts a live butterfly to sleep by gently massaging its thorax...which everyone except Joe finds amusing. Read it HERE.

"TAKE IT" - The video

Our new song, "Take It" has an ingenious video directed by Eric Notarnicola and Daniel Gray Longino. If you ever thought that late 80's / early 90's television advertisements for board games couldn't be elevated into poignant commentary about LIFE then take a look at this:

Music videos in the works...

Albert Birney [Head of production at Jubadaba, Director of The Beast Pageant, general artistic director of the Spinto Band] and Nicholas Gurewitch [Creator of the Perry Bible Fellowship, Trails of Tarnation, and many great things] hard at work on a new Spinto Band video.

Carol Cleveland Sings on Daytrotter

Thomas' usually introverted recording project, Carol Cleveland Sings actually did a tour late 2010 and ended up recording a session for Daytrotter. It features Owen from ROAR on keyboard, guitar and vocal duties. Sometimes these songs grow into Spinto Band songs. Sometimes they don't. Either way, you can LISTEN THESE EMBRYONIC SONG MORSELS HERE.

Getting residential.

To celebrate the release of SHY PURSUIT we are going to be playing a slew of shows in two of our favorite east coast cities, Brooklyn and Philadelphia.

These things are called "residencies" and we are delighted to be playing them in two really cool venues, The Rock Shop and the Kung Fu Necktie. The last time we did something like this it was in the summer of 2008, pre-moonwink. We had a blast inviting some of our favorite musicians to play with us in the same spaces every week and now we are doing it again, but in TWO cities! We've got some very very special guests planned so be sure to check in soon. For now, here are the dates:

May 03 - The Rock Shop – Brooklyn, NY - Tickets
May 08 - Kung Fu Necktie – Philadelphia, PA - Tickets
May 10 - The Rock Shop – Brooklyn, NY - Tickets
May 15 - Kung Fu Necktie – Philadelphia, PA - Tickets

The second show of the new year.

Our second show of the new year belongs to Buried Beds. This delightful little glowworm of a band is releasing an EP later this month and we will be sharing the stage with them to celebrate it. This "EP" is a little peculiar in that it's also a FILM.

Earlier this Summer the band was filmed performing in a variety of locations in one day around Philadelphia and our own Nick Krill was there to capture it on tape. "Small Stories" (moving images and music) is the result. Why not take a look at the trailer?

Small Stories Trailer 1 from Nate Johnson on Vimeo.

We couldn't think of a better second show to have! Here are the details:

SATURDAY - FEBRUARY 25th
Johnny Brendas, Philadelphia, PA
