red in the face (and other places)

sorry. why have we forgotten about this tour journal? it was going so well, people were reading it, we were enjoying it, then we go on a big 3 week tour and all we post is a link to a bernie mac stand up bit. pathetic!

so, we wanted to rejuvinate with an amazing bit of information: the spinto band rode segways yesterday. that's right, just like this chick, we were scooting around feeling like we were in Back to The Future 2.

It all happened at the beautifully-graphic-designed Paleo festival in Nyon Switzerland. There was a french man on a segway, trying to buzz up interest with the Swiss stoner market at a rather large festival. He wouldn't let us ride it at first, when he thought we were just punters, but when we told him we were in a rock band, he scooted back to us and allowed us each to go for a spin.

I was a bit worried climbing onto it, and I must say, it is a new experience. I was dangerously out of control for a good minute and almost ran over a Norwegian looking child. Joe was also out of control, but we all quickly adapted to the weirdness of the segway and tried to steal it... the french man wouldn't allow it though and he threw a spear at us. I think it was just a warning shot to say, "come back with my segway," we obliged and returned it to him.

those things are everywhere! Very popular with the tourist set...when i was in paris there was a whole middle-aged gang of them riding them and sporting these goofy grins. Good times, good times...

being in a rock band is apparently the passport to segway sharing.

although its in no way a shield to spear-bearing frenchmen though...

In response to Liv:

I saw a tourist Segway brigade just today by the Washington Monument today! And they were all wearing pink hats! I see a disturbing pattern forming here...

haha i saw people riding those in Washington DC, and this guy went over a crack in the pavement and fell head first, and then it broke. it was one of the funniest 30 seconds of my life.

'beautifully-graphic-designed Paleo festival'?

I still say more ikea than urban outfitters... or was there an illicit meeting between the two?

Did you steal any creatures in the end?

This is unrelated, but i like the new Oh Mandy video almost as much as i liked the other one.

Segways have lead to the new lazy tourist.

Myspace was being a huge douche and wouldn't let me leave this long ass comment so, I'm placing it here instead.

1. I heard you were really really great at T in the Park.
2. My friend, Mart, from :( ran into you and I believe actually, Tom remembered me from the Boston show (that was oh so long ago now).
3. Sam needs to check out, www.sodapopstop.com (I just read an article about it, seems maybe a little bit like heaven).
4. While in Manchester, visit The Fab Cafe (sci-fi themed bar), eat on the left side of Curry Mile (the less flashy side I believe, it's better), and you should visit Urbis (I used to work there, it's pretty crappy but it's a glass building with a sideways elevator).
5. Hopefully, I'll be seeing you at South St. Seaport.

best line of this whole post.

I've always wanted to try one of those segway-mabobbers, but I'd probably fall head first and break it, like said by Anais above.

love,
Heather
